Abito (dress) and abitare (living) have common linguistic roots, they both come from Latin, they share the meaning of being “the core of a tree”.
A family lives in the same space, sharing habits, moves, everything that is daily, but they do not wear the same clothes.
In this regard, very often children would like to wear their parents’ clothes, sometimes to “still feel in their skin/flesh”, to feel wrapped by love and protection,
sometimes to feel grown up all of a sudden: like a magic, wearing one of their parent’s clothes immediately turns them into strong and adult individuals!
Parents cannot wear their children’s clothes, even though, if that was possible, their effect could be extremely good for them: as if by magic, they would be children again and would be pervaded by levity and happiness.
TheATLASfamilydress is a design workshop for the making of a dress that can be used by the whole family. Composed by the layering of garments belonging to each of the family members, it will not only be a sum of shapes, but also a means to carry over the habits, moods, gestures, levity, warmth and beauty that every family has deep inside itself.
