DOTE FEMMINILE
Fabbrica del Vapore
Milan Design Week, 2025
Dote Femminile was born from the desire to restore the bond between women and traditional artisanal techniques such as embroidery, weaving, sewing, and knitting, highlighting their immense material and immaterial value. For centuries, these practices were confined to the domestic sphere, perceived as minor activities compared to the crafts traditionally associated with men. This marginalization deprived these skills of their economic, social, and cultural value — even though they have endured across generations as tools of creativity, expression, and resistance.
Dote Femminile seeks to bring these techniques back to center stage, recognizing them as a living and contemporary heritage, and acknowledging them as a fundamental element in the birth and ongoing evolution of the refined textile arts and craftsmanship we know today. Through research, dialogue, and creative projects, the initiative explores the meaning of these practices in contemporary society, weaving together memory and innovation, tradition and experimentation.
