AHAHAH
Knitwear collection,
out in search of the lost smile
2021
100%cashwool, fisherman, gauge 5
AHAHAH sets out in search of the lost smile, redesigning the hidden part of the face through stitches, decreases, and increases made in knitwear: four pieces crafted in 100% merino wool, born in two-tone to highlight the imaginary design of the concealed face.
The collection consists of four pieces: a sweater, a scarf, a cagoule made on a fine gauge 5 English rib knitting machine, and a hand-crocheted, multi-wearable hat — all entirely made in Italy by local artisan companies.
However, the true purpose of the project is therapeutic: the knitted face aims to reimagine and revive the daily practice of smiling, benefitting both the spiritual and physical health of individuals and society as a whole.
The face can be divided into three zones: a lower one, corresponding to the mouth area, which reveals the affective and social component;
an intermediate one, between the mouth and the eyes, where instinct is expressed;
and an upper one, comprising the eyes and forehead, where the spiritual side of the person is manifested.
The predominance of one zone over the others, as well as their expansion or contraction, contributes to making each face an original and expressive whole.
The masks that protect us from the virus conceal two of the three zones of the face: the first, linked to the affective and social sphere, and the second, which expresses instinct. The mask protects us not only from the contagion of the virus but also from the contagion of the smile, from the sharing of emotions expressed at the edge of the lips, and from intuitions sensed through the nose.
